Meet the Cast

Hey there! I'm Katie.

I love reading the DIY and home decorating blogs around the blogosphere and I have a little embarrassing condo so it only made sense to give this whole blogging thing a shot myself!

So what makes me different from the rest?

I'm not a stay-at-home mom. I'm not good at graphic design or interior design. I'm not middle-age or older. I don't have a huge house, a husband who has a high enough paying job for me to redesign the house every few months, or any experience in sewing or construction. I'm not very good at photography. I don't even have good views from my condo.

In my opinion, it has seemed like all these other women blogging about their homes:

  • are wealthy enough to do whatever they want, even when they talk about having to budget. I was a teenager when I got pregnant and my step-dad asked me kindly to move out. Ever since then, it's been a daily struggle getting enough money to just have a little to set aside for emergencies.
  • have good cameras. Mine is my mom's old one, from nearly 7 years ago, and it's certainly showing its age.
  • have GARAGES. I never realized how important a garage was until I started thinking about how to do construction-type things on my tiny patio enclosure. I think I'm going to have to put a plastic tarp in my living room to fulfill my dream of building a farmhouse table.
  • have spare time to get on the internet and look up design ideas, to build furniture, to take their kids places. I barely have enough time to even sleep between going to college full-time in the mornings and working full-time third overnight.
  • are skilled in certain areas, whether they are good at sewing, wood working, painting, planning, photography... I'm only specially talented when it comes to sleeping, which I pursue with a passion.

That's why I think this blog is needed. There are no "real" down-to-earth blogs about what it's like to be super poor, on and off food stamps, and trying to make your house into a home.

Allow me to introduce the cast...

This is my fiance, who we'll call Wolf Shield. He's a 24 year old Sagittarius. He likes homemade buffalo chicken pizza, video games, and watching TV non-stop. His dislikes? Laundry, cleaning, socializing... He is, all in all, a completely typical gamer boyfriend. I am very blessed that he's a very good dad and a very good support system, though. Even though he's a lazy pig.

This is my daughter, The Princess. She'll be 3 soon (Nov. 2012). She likes Dora, swishing dancing skirts, and shopping. She dislikes bedtime and needing help getting her shoes on.

This is my sister, who will make recurring appearances throughout this blog. She is 19, an Aquarius, and, as of posting this, lives in the second bedroom of this condo. She is moving out in a few weeks, though, having finally decided to try living alone in her own little apartment. She likes building, creating, designing, and pretty much everything else I'll need help with in recreating my little embarrassing condo. She dislikes spending her own money.

And this is me! I'm a Scorpio and I'll be turning 22 soon. I like cleaning, organizing, and psychology. I dislike the smell of huge groups of people, bees, and people who don't like to learn anything. I'm a psychology major, doing undergraduate studies at the moment. I have another 2 years before I graduate (I'm behind, since I took off a year because my daughter's due date was shortly after my high school graduation). I hope to get into a graduate program for psychology, where I'll likely focus on human sexuality and rape research. I want to do research and teach at a university. I can't even imagine how amazing it's going to be to have school AS my job instead of having school AND a job.
